How to find just about anyone’s email address
**EDIT** — Unfortunately since this blog post was written, LinkedIn no longer allows integration of Prophet or Hunter, I am using Snovio at the moment (Sep 17) which seems to be working well.
If you are responsible for new business development in your agency, I’m pretty confident one of your biggest frustrations is the time you can spend trying to find peoples’ email addresses. Companies don’t willingly give out email addresses anymore. They are safely guarded and difficult to uncover. Instead of wasting time trying different formats and waiting for bounce backs, why don’t you try one of my favourite tools below.
Prophet is a Google Chrome extension that finds information about people. Install Prophet and look at a person’s Twitter or LinkedIn profile, it will show you the user’s Facebook, Google+, Blog, Sites, email address, phone number and much more. It goes beyond the web to analyse, generate and verify contact information that you can’t find on the web. It’s very easy and simple to use, it’s not always 100% accurate but it’s a good starting point.
You can use Hunter either in your web browser by visiting www.hunter.io or as a Google Chrome extension, downloadable here. You can use it for free searching up to 150 email addresses per month or there are different paid for options. Hunter also has a “Hunter for Google Sheets” extension that will find email addresses directly in your spreadsheet. As with Prophet when you use the Chrome extension, you can simply click on someone’s LinkedIn profile and there is a Hunter button which you can click on to reveal suggested email addresses.
What’s great is Email Hunter will find a variety of different emails and give you a number of “sources” from where they retrieved the information. Again, it isn’t always 100% accurate however I use it with Prophet and between both tools, I’m nearly always able to find an email address.
Sellhack is another great tool to use. With Sellhack you can check up to 10 emails per month and there are various payment options which you can view here http://sellhack.com/pricing.html. You can also upload files of data and it will find the email addresses for you.
Clearbit Connect — Supercharge Gmail extension is my latest discovery. I haven’t had a chance to use it much, but it looks great because not only can you use it to find email addresses but it also comes up with suggested contact names. All you need to do is go into Gmail, click on the Clearbit extension, select “find an email”, enter the Company domain name and then either enter the name of the person you are looking for or a job title and it will come up with a selection of different people. Click on the person you want and you will find their contact details.
5. Internet research
Alternatively, you can just use Google and the internet to find people’s email addresses. Check on their LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook or Instagram profiles or search the Investor Relations or Media section of the company website for email addresses. Usually, companies use the same format of emails for all their staff so once you have found one email format you can copy it for another contact.
Once you have a suggested email address, you can always double check it using Gmail and Hubspot Sales. When you are in Gmail, simply create a new email and enter the email address, then click your Hubspot Sales button on the right-hand side and if the email address is correct, it will come up with their profile.
I hope you find these tools and tricks helpful, there are loads more you can use but these are my tried and tested favourites.
